For the Centennial celebrations of the city of Tel Aviv-Yafo, the city of Vienna has created a special cultural program. As part of this program, a special Austrian film festival has been created by the Viennese artist group ‘ritesinstitute (Karin Schneider & Friedemann Derschmidt), and the Israeli artist Tal Adler. The films reflect the way Austria is seen by prominent Austrian film makers. Although these film makers work in different genres, aesthetics and ethics, they all seem to look at Austrian society and question its identity: its past, present, abyss and contradictions.

P.S:

In Vienna, 1902, with its anti-Semitic Mayor Dr. Karl Lueger, a Jewish Journalist wrote a utopian novel about his vision of a Jewish state. This novel was published in Hebrew as “Tel Aviv”. Herzl died some years before the founding of the City of Tel Aviv and before Vienna became one of the main origins of the Holocaust. Vienna and Tel Aviv are entangled by Utopia and disaster.
